Server Side Software Developer (Distributed Computing, Messaging, Linux, Java or C# or VB.NET, Middleware, Web Services, SOA, Functional Programming)

£40-60k depending on experience + benefits (bonus, gym membership, 25 days' holiday, pension, childcare vouchers, heavily subsidised food and drink and more)

North Staffordshire (easily commutable from Stoke, Crewe, Altrincham, Macclesfield, Stafford, Burton upon Trent, Derby, Cannock, Walsall, Telford)

This is a unique opportunity to work alongside a team of extremely talented Software Engineers who are pushing boundaries on a daily basis developing solutions for incredibly complex Real Time systems. Not only will you be working with strong coders but you'll also be collaborating with people with PhDs in Mathematics, Physics and similar.

It's likely you'll bring a background as a Java Developer or C# .NET Developer though in this role you'll learn functional programming so it doesn't matter what coding background you bring. You may have prior experience, either commercially or educationally, of functional programming languages like Erlang, golang, Haskell, Clojure or F#.

You will also have developed distributed applications so may have had exposure to multithreaded component development, Internet networking (socket programming, Switches, Routers, TCP/IP) and messaging protocols.

You will also understand/be aware of Computer Science fundamentals in data structures, algorithm design and complexity analysis. It's a highly parallel, low latency environment running on Linux - any experience with Open Source would be great.

If you're looking for a more senior role this team also requires a Solution Designer where you'll be the technical go-to person for a team of Software Engineers and will have responsibility for technical governance around solution design, quality of code and coding standards and will review the team's code on a constant basis.

This company work with truly enterprise-scale software and their annual investment in technology is significant - you will be part of an informal culture where staff are given autonomy to go away and deliver. Due to the size and broad technology landscape within the company there is definite opportunity for career progression into more senior roles.
